Therapy for Men in Seattle & Throughout Washington

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE

You may be doing well in many parts of your life while still feeling stuck in your relationships, disconnected from people you care about, or unsure how to talk about what is happening internally.

Maybe conversations with your partner keep turning into the same argument. Maybe you tend to shut down, pull away, get defensive, or struggle to put feelings into words. Or perhaps you're trying to make sense of who you want to be—as a partner, father, friend, professional, or man.

Eric Eagleson, LMFTA, provides online therapy for men throughout Washington who want to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and develop more effective ways of connecting with others.

Therapy Doesn't Require You to Become Someone You're Not

GET EQUIPPED

A lot of men learn to handle difficulty by pushing through it, solving problems independently, staying productive, or keeping emotions under control.

Those strategies can be useful. They can also become limiting when the problem is a relationship, an emotional pattern, or something that can’t simply be worked harder or reasoned away.

Therapy with Eric is a place to slow things down and understand what is happening beneath the surface—without assuming there is one correct way to express emotion, communicate, or be a man.

The goal isn’t to make you more emotional for its own sake. It is to help you understand your reactions, communicate more clearly, and respond to important relationships and situations with greater intention.

Life Transitions

Major life or relationship transitions

You do not need to have a diagnosis or be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes the reason to begin is simply realizing that the way you have been handling something is no longer producing the life or relationships you want.

Relationship Problems Can Be Individual Problems Too

When a relationship is struggling, couples therapy is not always the only useful option. Individual therapy can help you recognize what happens inside you during conflict: what you interpret as threatening, why you withdraw or become reactive, what you have difficulty saying directly, and what patterns you may be carrying into the relationship without realizing it.

You may begin to notice questions such as:

Why do I shut down when my partner needs me?
Why do I become defensive?
Why is it difficult to say what I need?
Why do the same conflicts keep happening?
Why do I feel disconnected?

Understanding those patterns can create more choice in how you respond.

Masculinity Without a Predetermined Answer

There are a lot of messages about what a man should be: independent but emotionally available, confident but vulnerable, ambitious but present, strong but open.

Those expectations can become especially complicated when they conflict with family history, culture, relationships, fatherhood, work, or your own sense of who you want to be.

Therapy can provide room to examine those expectations rather than simply accepting or rejecting them.

Eric does not approach masculinity as something that needs to be fixed. Instead, therapy can help you determine which values, expectations, and ways of relating actually fit the person you want to become.

Eric's Approach

Eric works from a relational, attachment-informed, and experiential perspective.

That means therapy pays attention not only to what you think about a problem, but also to the patterns that emerge in relationships, the emotions underneath your reactions, and the experiences that helped shape those patterns.

Sessions are collaborative and practical. You may work on understanding recurring relationship dynamics, becoming more aware of what happens emotionally during conflict, communicating more clearly, or experimenting with different ways of responding.

Eric also spent more than a decade working as a registered nurse before becoming a therapist. That experience contributes to his understanding of responsibility, demanding professional environments, stress, relationships, and the pressures that can come with roles centered on taking care of others.

Therapy for Men in Relationships

If your primary concern involves your relationship, Eric also works directly with couples.

Individual therapy may be a better fit when you want to focus primarily on your own patterns, emotional responses, identity, or way of relating. Couples therapy may make more sense when both partners want to work directly on the relationship together.

Common Questions About Premarital Counseling

Do I need to have a specific mental health diagnosis to start therapy? No. Men seek therapy for many reasons, including relationship problems, communication, life transitions, identity questions, emotional disconnection, or simply wanting to understand themselves and their patterns better.

Is therapy for men different from other therapy? Not necessarily. The value of specifically addressing men's experiences is that expectations around masculinity, emotion, relationships, work, independence, and responsibility can affect how someone experiences problems and seeks support. Eric explores those issues when they are relevant rather than assuming they apply to every man.

Can Eric help with relationship issues even if my partner doesn't attend? Yes. Individual therapy can be useful for understanding your own reactions, attachment patterns, communication, emotional responses, and role within recurring relationship dynamics.

Does Eric also provide couples therapy? Yes. Eric works with couples as well as individual men. Couples sessions are $200 for 55 minutes, with extended 90-minute sessions available for $300.

Where can I be located for online therapy? Eric provides telehealth to clients who are physically located in Washington State at the time of the session.

Is Eric a Good
Fit For You?

You may be a good fit for Eric if you want a therapist who is comfortable talking directly about relationships, emotion, masculinity, communication, attachment, and identity without reducing those experiences to stereotypes.

You do not need to know exactly what you want from therapy before reaching out.

A free 15-minute consultation gives you a chance to briefly describe what is bringing you in, ask questions about Eric's approach, and decide whether scheduling a first session makes sense.
